Instructional Courses

All instructional courses are private outings (unless otherwise noted) and the rates are the same as Guided Climbing. Similar to the Guiding Climbing offerings, all of the instructional courses will be tailored to the goals of the individual or group. Please note: some of the courses have a suggested participant to guide ratio and duration to maximize the learning outcomes.

    Intro to Rock Climbing

    Interested in getting into rock climbing but don’t know where to start? Come take an intro course with me! Topics will include donning equipment, climbing movement, lowering skills, tying in to climb, safety checks, communication, and belaying.

    Anchor Building

    Come learn how to build your own anchors and work towards climbing safely on your own! This course will dive into multiple anchor principles and will ultimately be tailored to the type of climbing you’d like to be able to do.

    Learn to Lead

    Want to learn how to lead climb?Join me for this intensive course where you’ll learn the fundamentals of traditional lead climbing including gear placement, anchor building, and lead belaying. This course is best as a 2 or 3 day booking as there is a lot of material to cover. 1 or 2 participants is the optimal ratio. Click here to learn more.

    Multi-Pitch Efficiency

    This course is designed to take your existing climbing skills and transfer them to a multi-pitch setting. You will learn how shorten your transition times, terrain assessment, and other techniques allowing you and your climbing partners to climb more pitches in a day. This course is great for both leaders and followers who wish to become more efficient on longer routes. 2 person maximum.

    Self Rescue

    Looking to refresh your self rescue skills? In this course we will cover a variety of techniques that can be used to assist a partner, rescue an injured climber, escape a belay and more. This topic is extensive, so the course will be tailored specific goals of the individual or group. This is a great course to take as you start to venture out climbing on your own!

    Do you have an upcoming AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course, SPI Exam or Rock Guide Course? Join me for a day of intensive instruction tailored to your AMGA course prep needs. I will help you fill in any knowledge gaps and refresh your skills so you can have a successful course experience. 2 person maximum.

    Gym to Crag Group Course Series - Joshus Tree Specific Anchor Building

    Want to become a more self-sufficient Joshua Tree climber? Come join me for a full day of anchor building and instruction. You will learn and practice anchor building with boulders, bolts and cams. We will build anchors together and then climb on them We will finish the day with a tour or crags where you can start applying these skills on your own. Rental gear included if needed. 6 spots available.
